This is an unprecedented season that we are in. Most countries have shut their borders to hunker down and weather the Covid-19 pandemic. International travel may come to a standstill but the dreaming does not. Despite the fact that we’ve been temporarily relegated to armchair travel, we are all still travellers and the world is still beautiful – we’ve not stopped dreaming just yet! So 10 countries in 2 parts articles.
On my dream list of 10 countries to visit (when it is safe to travel and when I have the funds), here we go.
- Russia
The world's largest country offers it all, from historic cities and idyllic countryside to artistic riches, epic train rides. Take the Tran-Siberian Railway ride starting from Moscow for an epic adventure of a lifetime or visit the St Basil’s Cathedral, the colourful onion shaped dome cathedral, an iconic landmark of not only Moscow but also Russia.

- Tibet
Set at the plateau of the Himalayas, it is nicknamed the “Roof of the World” for its towering peaks. Tibet offers calming monasteries, breathtaking high-altitude walks and stunning views of the world’s highest mountains.

- Bhutan
Bhutan is no ordinary place. Purportedly the happiest country in the world, this tiny Himalayan kingdom is shrouded in the mystery and magic of the traditional Buddhist culture. Not to be missed is the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched precariously on a cliff, 900 metres off the ground.

- Sri Lanka
After decades of civil conflict, and most recently, the devastating bombing attack, Sri Lanka is once again rising up out of the ashes and welcoming visitors to its colourful country. Already popular amongst intrepid travelers, this country is notable for its timeless temples, its rich wildlife and delicious cuisine. One of the most famous highlights in Sri Lanka is the UNESCO World Heritage listed Lion Rock of Sigiriya.

- Croatia
Startling sapphire blue waters of the Adriatic Sea borders the coastline of Croatia. More than beautiful beaches, there are stone castles and fortresses that holds thousands of years of history within its walls and magnificent waterfalls that await travelers. Home to the magical Plitivce Lakes, a UNESCO Heritage site that is absolutely a must visit when in Croatia.
